Did you know that the devil is never powerful? He is not all knowing as God and he is not omnipresent as God. He can be resisted and he can flee from you. This is the truth he wouldn't want you to know. So never think that you are powerless before Him. In the verse below, the Bible has given us a clear principle for resisting him.

Reference: James 4:7 King James Version (KJV) 'Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.'

To follow the principle of effective resistance, first, we need to be submissive to God. We must subject ourselves to God and His Word. When you have the Word and you walk in light of it, then the devil can be resisted. Remember in the wilderness, when the devil tempted our Lord Jesus, He defeated him with the Word.

Matthew 4:10 (ESV) says, 'Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan!" For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.' Notice that the devil left when Jesus resisted him with the Word. And remember that Jesus was fully submissive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. That's why the first verse of Matthew chapter 4 told us that Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

At any point in your life, if you realize that you're not following the leading of God's Spirit, our referenced verse reveals what you must do: submit to God again. When you submit to God, even if the Spirit of God leads you through the wilderness of life, just like He led Jesus, you'll still be empowered to resist the devil. 1 Peter 5:8-9 (NIV): "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." The Greek word for devour is katapino, which literally means to "swallow," or to "drown", and this is Satan's goal against every Christian. However, the next verse says, 'Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.' Being vigilant and alert is a function of subscribing to the intelligence of the Holy Spirit. It positions us to resist the devil. Many Christians aren't alert because they don't cooperate or stay in tune with the Spirit of God.

Satan is a liar and a schemer, and he has been instrumental in engineering the system of tripping up Christians from the very beginning of human history. Therefore, his resistance requires us to actively submit to the authority of God's Word. It demands that we continually counter his lies by using the truth in the Word. The devil can't afford to remain in the presence of our submission to the truth of God's Word. Also you must choose to be alert through your prayer life. If you aren't alert, you can be hooked into the schemes of the devil. Be alert, have and grow in the knowledge of the Word, and be subject to God's Spirit. Wake up and pray to overcome his wiles and temptations. Mark 14:38 (NIV) reads, 'Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.'

Most times, some Christians aren't aware of what is happening because they are weak in spirit. The devil takes advantage of such ignorant Christians, but God's Word is clear and His principles always work. If we submit to God, we'll easily detect the enemy's schemes and resist him. Only then he will run away from us. 2 Corinthians 2:11 (NKJV) says, 'lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices'. Simply put, if you are aware of his schemes or devices, you can resist him successfully. This is why you need to have the accurate knowledge of the Word because the devil can devour ignorant and careless Christians. This will never be your portion in Jesus' Name!

Scripture Reading - Isaiah 59:19; Luke 9:1; 10:19; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5; Ephesians 6:10-11; 1 John 4:4.

Exuberant Declaration: I live a life of submission to God's authority and by the help of the Holy Spirit, I'm strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. As I continually search the Scriptures and fill my mind with God's truth, I'm empowered with true wisdom and discernment to quickly detect and subdue the forces, schemes and wiles of the enemy. Being fully subjected to the Word, I get soaked in the knowledge of truth and I'm sober-minded. Therefore I'm not ignorant of the schemes of the devil, rather I resist him authoritatively. Hallelujah!
