Today, I'm sharing great thoughts about God's own people, addressing the understanding of their origin and background, in terms of new birth. And I strongly believe that the meaning of our true identity in Christ will be well understood in light of today's Bible story regarding Abraham.

Reference: 1 Peter 2:9 Amplified Bible (AMP) "Once you were NOT A PEOPLE [at all], but now you are GOD'S PEOPLE; once you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY."

Now that we are being addressed as God's own people because we have received mercy, apart from renewing our minds to align with the mind of Christ and the new life we have, we must also understand that we've been called to inherit a blessing. As a result, one of the verities of the identity of God's people is that they are partakers of the inheritance in the Kingdom of God, which means that they are their Father's heir. Hence, Colossians 1:12 reads, "Always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light" (NLT).

As God's people, we are His heirs, and Christ Himself is our greatest gift from God. In other words, Christ is the brand name of our boundless blessing from God. Through Him, all of God's promised inheritance to Abraham was bequeathed to us. In consequence, the Bible says, "And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God's promise to Abraham belongs to you" (Colossians 3:29 NLT). Now watch this: If you come into God's family as God's own people, you ought to ask questions about who is who, especially details regarding the history of your spiritual forefathers and their root.

Now who is this Abraham? Abraham is one of the Biblical Patriarchs of the nation of Israel. And due to his faithfulness, God made him a blessing and gave him a great promise, which can be located in Genesis chapter 12:2-3: "And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonours you I will curse, and through you all the families of the earth shall be blessed" (ESV). God uttered the blessing in two cardinal segments: Firstly, I will make you a great nation. Secondly, in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Subsequently, in Genesis 22:17-18 and in Genesis 26:3-4, God reassured the same promise to Abraham's son, Isaac and his son Jacob. Eventfully, this promise became the basis of the manifestation of God's eternal purpose through Christ. More so, considering the truth that we are God's most prized possession and extremely special to Him, all of Abraham's promised blessing was fulfilled in Christ for us (2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV/NLT). Did you get it? Therefore we have an inheritance- an inheritance of glory which we share with Christ. Now, to confirm that we are God's own people, who have received mercy, here's what the Spirit of God does for us: "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ..."(Romans 8:16-17 KJV).

Why does the Spirit of God bear this witness with our spirit? This is because in Christ, when we heard the word of truth, the good news of our salvation, we [as a result] believed in Him, and so, we were stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit [the One promised by Christ] as owned and protected [by God]. The Holy Spirit is the guarantee [the first instalment, the pledge, a foretaste] of our inheritance until the redemption of God's own [purchased] possession [His believers], to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:13-14 AMP). Beloved, the Holy Spirit is our down payment or first instalment of our inheritance in Christ. For this reason, He keeps pushing the "witness" button in our spirit, as an evidence or proof that we are owned by God, as well as His heirs, and joint-heirs with Christ, thereby establishing that we are no longer addressed as "NOT A PEOPLE."

Markedly, time will not allow me to delve further into the mystery of our benefits and privileges in Christ, as God's own people, but now, I commit you to God and to the Word of His grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified (Acts 20:32 NIV). Shalom!

Exuberant Declaration: I am the very seed of Abraham and I have received divine mercy that strategically positioned me to become a heir and possessor of God. I have an inheritance of glory among the saints because I'm in oneness connection with Christ, the boundless ocean of all-round blessings. Hallelujah!
